Innovative Healthcare Financing for Low Income Households IHA has developed innovative private health insurance products for a number of private insurers in Kenya, Uganda and South Sudan focussing on low cost private health insurance that is targeted at the underserved low income groups. The firm was also involved in the Network for Africa Initiative (now ACA) that seeks to disseminate knowledge and share experiences and lessons in design and management of low cost health financing schemes.
IHA provided low cost insurance design services to PharmAccess Foundation which is implementing Health Insurance Fund projects in Kenya. The work involved supporting the development of health micro-insurance products for low income earners within an agricultural cooperative society in Kenya.
Working with Abt Associates Inc., IHA was part of the team that carried out the assessment and experience sharing of the safe motherhood and family planning OBA voucher program in three East African and two Asian countries. The assessment was followed by an international workshop in Kenya in which IHA was the main facilitator.
IHA was contracted by KfW and MOPHS in Kenya to design a prototype of a health micro-insurance product targeted at low income earners in the informal sector to be delivered through microfinance institutions. This assignment included the development of a concept note proposing mechanisms for financing healthcare for the absolute poor through vouchers, social health insurance and supply side financing for primary care.
